About Chris

Chris Anderson

Some of the best memories we have about people are the things we remember that they loved in life. When anyone that knew Chris think of him, they will immediately think of his love of the outdoors and the hunting and fishing it afforded him. Like his father James, Chris loved the river and from the age of five he was an annual fixture on the Thanksgiving camping trip on the Waccamaw with his father’s friends and their sons. He was taught to love nature the right way and was just as comfortable in Browning shirt, jeans, boots and a down filled jacket, as a banker is in a coat and tie. He loved his boat, his decoys, his guns, the throbbing of his hands in the morning cold and he loved Drake, his retreiver and companion on every hunt.

On the night of the 29th September 1996, Chris was tragically taken from us. He was trying to help out a friend caught up in a gang related fight. Chris got involved in the fight, and was stabbed several times. He was taken to hospital, but later died on the operating table. You can read more about what happend to Chris in these selected newspaper clippings.

Those who knew him will forever remember the good sportsman he was. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the Long Bay Hunting Club and he was a certified diver. He was a part of the good things in hunting and fishing. The things that make it possible for even those that give nothing to enjoy what nature has provided.

We need more Chris Anderson’s in this world. Even though he left at such a young age, he set an example for young and old of what hunting and fishing can do to set the right kind of character and binding companionship in a young person’s life. His life proved the worthiness of organizations like Ducks Unlimited and the importance of what kind of relationship between father and son can be grown out of outdoor sports.
